What does green living mean? Among others, it implies making the optimum utilization of renewable resources for the conservation of energy. The number of celebrities who are ditching fossil fuel for greener alternatives, especially the solar, is growing rapidly. Below are the inspiring stories of six stars from Hollywood:

Three times Academy Award nominated actor, Edward Norton has been one of the early champions of solar energy. In partnership with the oil giant and leading solar-panel producer BP, he developed the Solar Neighbors Program, which works for making photovoltaic (PV) panels available to the lower-income families in Los Angeles. The unique project takes philanthropy to an all-new height by pursuing celebrities to match each of their purchases of a solar-energy system with panels for a low-income family home. The project has signed up many stars that include the heavyweights like Tom Hanks, Salma Hayek, and Owen Wilson.

Leonardo DiCaprio has long been synonymous with the initiatives aimed at combating climate change. His dream project, Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, is actively involved with several environment-friendly activities concerning the promotion of renewable energy, conservation of forests, cleaning oceans, wider access to clean water, and more. The 2017 Oscar-winner even went to the extent of powering the entire set of a movie with solar energy. And the film turned out to be a blockbuster. If you are guessing the name of the movie, it’s Inception.

Besides actively participating in Norton’s Solar Neighbors project, Brad Pitt also steers his own solar power initiative called Make It Right. His Foundation helped rebuild hundreds of energy-efficient, solar-powered homes in New Orleans in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Katrina.

The solar industry finds another avid supporter in Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp. He reportedly runs the 35-acre Little Halls Pond Cay Island—the one that he owns— on hydrogen solar cells. He tied up with Mike Strizki, the founder of the Hydrogen House Project, to turn his island into a self-sustaining paradise powered by solar electricity.

The Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchette does not only power her own home in Australia with solar energy but also makes sure that the theater company, the Wharf, taps the sun’s power to run its operations. As a result of the installation of more than 1900 solar panels in its office at Sydney Harbor, the company experienced a 70 percent drop in its utility bills.

The deadly Elle Driver of Kill Bill, Daryl Hannah, is an avid environmental activist in her personal life. Her home in the Rocky Mountains runs completely on solar energy, helping meet all of her electricity needs while a nearby spring supplies water to her mansion.

All of these stars have used their wealth to raise awareness about the importance of flipping the switch from fossil-fuel-based conventional electricity to solar energy. However, we should remember that taking initiatives for creating a sustainable future is not the sole responsibility of celebrities. All of us can do our bits by making alternative energy sources a part of our lifestyle. Do you want to emulate your favorite celebrity by switching to solar? Contact us here for the best services.
